Word of Mouth is a new series on our blog that asks the tastemakers of Do415 to share their thoughts on upcoming shows, musicians, books and general get-to-know-you questions. To kick things off we asked Gregory Hill of Professional Fans and Temple SF to dish on his favorite shows, his favorite drink, what events he’s looking forward, and more..
1. What has been your favorite event of 2012 so far?
Thats tough with both SXSW and Noise Pop this year. I would have to say Born Gold, oOoOO and Grimes at the Rickshaw stop was the best show I’ve seen so far this year. Grimes really blew me away with her charisma and attention to detail in her music. I think she may be one of the most artistic artists creating music right now.
2. What is your favorite book from when you were a kid?
I don’t know if this counts but in high school I was addicted to the Great Gatsby. F. Scott Fitzgerald has a way with words, details and story structure.
3. If you could reunite any band, who would it be?
I’d bring back Bradley Nowell from the dead and reunite Sublime, But I’d be happy with MF DOOM and Madlib teaming up for another Madvillan tour/album.
4. If you had to order the same drink for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Whisky Sour for sure.
5. What are 3 bands do you wish would tour together?
Justice, The XX, MF DOOM
6. What upcoming event are you most excited for?
Besides Coachella obviously, SF has some amazing shows coming up. Cults 4/5 at Slims, Paper Diamond 4/9 at the Independent, Youth Lagoon 4/13 at the Independent, Justice 4/17 At the Fox, Miike Snow 4/12 At the Fox, White Arrows 4/15 at Slims, St Vincent and tUnE YaRdS 4/24 at the Fox, Tennis 4/30 the Independent, Curren$y 5/4 the Regency and Portugal. The Man 5/6 at the Independent.
