Cinco de Drinko

Written by: Dylan MacTurk

In many ways, Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the underdog. From the warriors who valiantly repelled the French at Puebla, to me, attempting to get out of bed in the morning, it is a day of glory for those of us who’ve succeeded against all odds. It is my belief that underdogs are among the best kinds of dogs (just below wiener and pretzel), therefore it’s a great day to honor the little guy, even as he’s passing out from tequila shots in the mid-afternoon.

My suggestion is that you get after it early, before the throngs of ignorant white people embarrass you back into your home. That said, there truly are some choice events worth attending in the cuatro-uno-cinco. The classic, something-for-everyone-who-is-an-alcoholic day kicks off at a variety of locations.

The traditional: San Francisco Cinco de Mayo Festival

The anti-traditional:  HARD FRENCH: Pico De Gallo @ El RIo:

The investment: Hecho en San Francisco

My personal choice: Aventine Cinco de Mayo Block Party

If none of these events suit your fancy, be sure to check out other events in San Francisco for Cinco de Mayo on Do415

Whatever your poison, be cool, be respectful and be thankful that you have an excuse to be a drunken shambles all day. Nos vemos.
